Friends & Fables is a Discord-based spin on D&D 5e where an AI dungeon master runs text adventures for one or many players.

How to use Friends & Fables

1. Open the Friends & Fables website and click the invite link to join the official Discord server.
2. Type /create in any game channel to make a character and pick a class, race, and background.
3. Select a quest from the menu Franz (the AI DM) presents, or type /newworld to spin up your own setting.
4. Read the starting scene Franz sends, then reply in plain language to describe what your hero does next.
5. Use slash commands such as /roll when you need a die check, or /help if the syntax slips your mind.
6. Add friends by tagging them in the same channel; their characters step straight into the adventure with no extra setup.
7. Return whenever you like—Franz saves progress so the story continues the moment the next message drops.

Our time with Friends & Fables

I spent several evenings testing the tool both alone and with three friends scattered across the country. Franz greeted us with vivid backdrops, clear goals, and milestone markers that kept the plot steady—something I had not seen in other AI-run games.
